We went to see the new Star Wars movie yesterday. Don't worry...no plot information. You can keep reading if you haven't seen it.
While it was a good movie and did a good job of bridging the last two episodes and the next three (or should I say the first three), I found it to be very sad.
I had always pictured Darth Vader as simply a villan in dark clothes. Even as a watched him grow up in the last two films, it was hard to make the connection between that cute little boy and the Darth Vadar. In fact, Darth Vadar didn't really seem all that bad in those first movies. But don't worry, this installment sets the record straight.
Anakin's fall starts with one bad decision made in haste based on the foundation of his Jedi training; yet a decision for which he doesn't feel he can be forgiven. It's a sad moment. It's sadder still to watch his fall to the dark side. But perhaps most disturbing of all, is now knowing that the man behind the black mask, was once a man of principle who lost his way and didn't believe that others could help him find his way home.
Too many people do the same thing in "real" life, don't you think?
